Parenting can be a stressful job and it is important to take time to detox your mind. Mindful activities such as talking about your worries and concerns with someone, a supportive friend, family or coach to gain perspective can help you to process your emotions and clear your mind.
Writing down your thoughts and emotions is also a great way to organize and release any worries. It can also help you to gain insight and reduce stress; Mindful meditation will help you gain clarity and focus; Listening to calming music to relax and unwind can also be beneficial. Going for a walk a walk-in nature to clear the mind and refresh the senses can make you feel good, and a jog can also help to clear your head.
Engaging in physical exercise can also help to release endorphins and boost mood.
It is also important to note that detoxing your mind is a great way to improve your mental health as a parent. Finally, make sure to get enough sleep to allow your body and mind to rest and recover. All these activities are great ways to detox your mind from the stresses of parenting.
Where on earth am I going to get the time to do all these? I can hear most people thinking loud. As they say, 'you cannot have enough time to do everything, but you can have enough time to do the most important things' that can help you to be the best version of yourself.
Be realistic with your time. Utilise the spaces between school drop up offs or 'me' time in the evening if you have one. Catch some power nap when your baby sleeps, or your toddlers attend birthday party with your spouse or partner. Do not fill ups all the spaces you have with chores. Chores will never finish.
Ask for help if you need to. If you have a partner, ask for help if you can. Join local parents groups for networking; Tap into your local children's centres resources. Create realistic boundaries and routines that can accommodate 'Me time'. You know your circumstances better than anyone else, so think of what you can let go off, what you can start to do that can give you more time. Think of what you could do differently or what you can start to do to attain your new you.
Parenting is not a race, it is a marathon. Pace yourself, plan ahead and create time to detox your mind. You are more likely to parent better with logic when you have a clear mind than to react irrationally with demanding pressure of parenting.
